Phoenix’s X-Ray System Magnifies Greater Than 2500x For 1-Micron Analysis News from E-InSite
Phoenix X-Ray Systems and Services Inc. has introduced ahigh-resolution microfocus x-ray system incorporating the company’s open tube technology. The new system, dubbed the PCBA analyzer, inspects printed circuit board assemblies (PCBA)for failure analysis and refined process/production control. It is capable of detectiondown to 1-micron at magnifications greater than 2500x, and detects manufacturing errorsbefore, during and after PCBA assembly, the Camarillo, Calif.-based company said.
Phoenix X-Ray’s tester is a PC based x-ray system with an “open” typevacuum chamber, 360 degree-axes rotation, auto positioning control (APC), oblique view athighest magnification (OVHM) for ultra magnification at angles, and software imagingtools. The system is designed for the PCBA contract electronic manufacturers (CEM) marketand high-end inspection laboratories.
The PCBA analyser enables accurate determination of manufacturing and process faults instandard SMT and THP solder joints (also fine pitch), area array packages such as mBGAs,BGAs, CSPs and flip-chips. It can identify short circuits, missing solder connections, variations in shape/diameter of solder joints, solder wetting and voiding.
It uses open tube technology and has the ability to rotate the sampled componentsimultaneously within the horizontal plane while magnifying in real time with outmanipulation or adjustment, the company said.
The PCBA analyser is available with tubes of 100kV and 225kV and a typicalconfiguration costs about $220,000.
